Once the kids leave, you really start to think about downsizing, needing less space, wanting less maintenance, and desiring a simpler lifestyle, perhaps even yearning for a more vibrant, urban experience. And so you are posed with the million dollar question: where do I go from here? Before you even consider a sale, you should be acquainted with what the options are. Here is a quick list of Minneapolis and Edina condos for sale to get the conversation started.
Edina Condos for Sale
There are many different types of condos in Edina, including Edina Luxury Condos at such notable developments as the Westin Galleria Residences, 5000 France Condos, and 8 on France Brownstones; mid-range condos in Edina at The Henley of 50th & France, Village Homes of Centennial Lakes, and Grandview Square; and affordable, pre-1990 Edina condos for sale in Cahill, Dewey Hill, Bredesen Park, Todd Park, Edinborough, Parklawn, Promenade, and Centennial Lakes neighborhoods, including Village Homes of Centennial Lakes Condos, and the European-inspired Coventry of Edina Townhomes.
You can easily find Condos for Sale in Edina that match your budget and lifestyle. Edina condo associations offer a variety of amenities, depending on the community, including swimming pools, exercise rooms, storage rooms, wine cellars, community meeting rooms, party rooms, underground parking, assigned parking, security, professional management, and car washes. Finally, most Edina Condos will allow cats and other small pets, and will allow owners to rent units long-term.View Edina Condos for Sale
Minneapolis Condos & Lofts for Sale
Minneapolis has one of the hottest markets for Minneapolis Condos and Lofts for Sale, especially for empty nesters. The urban lifestyle here is activated both by the waterfront, making it highly walkable and bikeable, and by the many cultural and entertainment amenities nearby such as Orchestra Hall, State Theater, Target Center, Twins Stadium, and the new, billion dollar Vikings Stadium. The greatest growth in population has happened in two distinct areas: the Mill District and the North Loop.
The Mill District runs along the riverfront east of the 3rd Avenue Bridge, just across the Stone Arch Bridge, and includes wonderful restaurants like the Spoonery (same owner as Cafe Brenda’s) and cultural attractions like the Guthrie Theater, McPhail Institute, and the Mill City Museum. Most of the Minneapolis Mill District Condos for Sale have great river views and walk right out on to river parkway. My recommended buildings include Zenith Condos, Stonebridge Lofts (a companion project by the same developer is already in the works), Stone Arch Lofts, North Star Lofts, and Bridgewater Condos.
The North Loop includes the dense, low-rise area of condos, lofts, and many new luxury apartment buildings north of Hennepin Avenue, with Washington Avenue as the spine of the district. Minneapolis North Loop Condos for Sale have a variety of designs and views, some are industrial, some contemporary lofts, some traditional condos, and some a mixture of all those styles. Some of my favorite North Loop condo buildings include Bookman Stacks, Bookman Lofts, Bassett Creek Lofts, Security Lofts, Tower Lofts, Lindsay Lofts, and 801 Washington Lofts.View Minneapolis Condos & Lofts for Sale
New Condo Development in Edina & Minneapolis
In Edina, although they have been building a lot of apartments, there are no new condo or even townhome projects slated for development in the near future, again giving Minneapolis an advantage to the empty nester demographic. In Minneapolis, the first luxury condo high-rise project since the great recession (see recent Star tribune article) will at 200 Central Ave SE in Minneapolis, on the site of Washburn McCreavy just north of the Central Ave bridge, and just across the river from the Carlyle and luxury apartments Latitude 45, in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood.
The developer is Bob Lux, Alatus LLC, who has developed and collaborated on some of the highest quality residential development in the midwest. This will be a world-class luxury project offering the finest in amenities, finishes, on par with recent Alatus, LLC projects such as the Carlyle Luxury Condos (39 stories, 255 units), and Grant Park Condos (27 stories, 331 units). As there is pent up demand from luxury homeowners for larger sized units that are less of a downsize from their often 4,000-10,0000 sf homes, you can expect to see generous floor plans with large balconies that tap into the deep, wide views of both the city skyline and the river. There are hundreds of new apartment units going up in this Southeast Minneapolis section of the Hennepin Avenue corridor, along with expected new retail and restaurant offerings.
Near the 200 Central Ave site today you will find Phoenix on the River Luxury Condos and Cobalt Condos, as well as Byerly’s grocery store, Minneapolis Event Center, St. Anthony Main, the Stone Arch Bridge, and Nicollet Island. From the new luxury condo site, you will be able to easily walk or bike over the Stone Arch bridge in minutes to the Mill District. Take in a theatrical performance at the Guthrie, have drinks on the back balcony, and gaze back over the river to admire your new 200 Second Avenue luxury condo!
