Lake Edina

Many authentic mid-century homes throughout Cornelia.

Welcome to Lake Edina

The Cornelia Neighborhood of Edina was developed primarily in the 1950’s and 60’s, with most subdivisions being built shortly after Southdale Mall was completed in 1956 as the first year-round, climate-controlled mall in the United States. Because of this, you will find many authentic mid-century homes throughout Cornelia. The neighborhood itself is broken up into three distinct areas on the City of Edina official neighborhoods map: Lake Cornelia (north of 70th Street); South Cornelia (south of 70th Street, and east of West Shore Dr), and Lake Edina (south of 70th Street, and west of West Shore Dr). Lake Cornelia is a very distinct area surrounding its namesake, and includes a small section just south of 66th Street on the west side of the Lake surrounding the lake on the north of 66th Street. Amenities include Lake Cornelia, surrounding trails and paved paths, Edina Aquatic Center, and Rosland Park. South Cornelia is basically the “school zone” and centers on Cornelia School and Park, the hub of neighborhood activity for the area. The park features a new, improved school playground, tennis courts, ball fields, and a hockey rink with warming house. The school is well-supported and beloved by families in the area, and there are often neighborhood-wide school and sports events that occur here. Just south of the school is Fred Richards Park, a beautiful 42 acre piece of parkland that will be repurposed as a community-wide park in the near future. Finally, Lake Edina is a smaller section of homes bordering highway 100 and West Shore, with Lake Edina and Arneson Acres Park (13 acre park featuring raw greenspace, gardens, gazebo, and fountain) forming the backbone of the neighborhood. The Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail comes over Highway 100, along the west side of Lake Edina, and through Fred Richards Park. In addition to being blessed with bountiful park space, pristine natural resources, and a loved community school, Cornelia Neighborhood is also adjacent to retail nirvana, with Galleria, Southdale Mall, and a host of grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Byerly’s, Cub Foods, and Target) all within a short car ride, bike ride, or walk from most homes. No wonder so many people choose to call the Cornelia Neighborhood of Edina home!
